For citizens who have completed the CPA (Citizens Police Academy) course and want to continue their involvement as volunteers for the SSPD community outreach initiative, but do not wish to go on patrol, the VIPS may be an ideal alternative. VIPS members act as liaisons between the police department and the community at many different events within our city and assist officers with special projects and clerical duties at SSPD headquarters. The VIPS have varied opportunities available such as: working the SSPD booth at the Sandy Springs Festival; assisting with crowd control at the city’s 4th of July celebration and multiple other city events; giving crime prevention talks at senior citizens centers; assisting at the police department’s front desk; among other exciting activities for our community. VIPS is a national organization managed by the IACP (International Association of Chiefs of Police).
