The Sandy Springs Police Department (SSPD) was created in 2006, and serves the community with 148 sworn officers. Operations are coordinated from two districts – North and South. There are four patrol shifts and each shift is commanded by a lieutenant and two sergeants. The Patrol Division is complemented by specialty units including the Street Crimes Unit (SCU), Traffic Unit, Narcotics and Vice Unit (NVU), and Criminal Investigation Division (CID). The SSPD has several specialty vehicles and equipment including the river response boat, Rhino ATV units, river kayaks, and an armored vehicle for tactical response.
